Lent.

I almost always choose to give something up for Lent, but this year I'm going to bring my family into it and focus on teaching the boys what Lent and Easter are all about!

We're going to be doing a few different things:

1. Amanda over at DixieDelights, one of my FAVORITE blogs, posted these cards the other day. They give an idea a day for the Lenten season. She and her family are Catholics so they don't all pertain to Methodism, but we'll use the blank cards to fill in when something doesn't work for us. James is SCARED because a few of the days are "Turn off all electronics" or "Turn off the TV." Clearly, we are too attached and this will be good for us!

2. Resurrection eggs. Hoping to find these in my Easter box this weekend. They share the story of Jesus' resurrection with symbols inside of Easter eggs. Put them all together and you can tell the whole story! {This is part of number 1.}

3. Resurrection rolls. James and Will are going to LOVE these. {Again, an activity for number 1.}

4. Read our children's Bible in 40 days!

5. Keep up with our Jesus Calling devotions.

6. Eddie and I are taking a Financial Peace University course at our church. I think this totally counts as a Lenten series! ;)

7. I have a few books on my reading list that I think are PERFECT for Lent, even though they're not Lenten books. I'll be reading Hands Free Mama and Made to Crave. Ann Voskamp also has a Lenten devotional {you can find it on her website} in case you're interested.

8. I've been working through reading the Bible in a year and hit a slump so I'm going to pick that back up and work through Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy during Lent.

9. Go see Son of God! This is definitely an awesome one on the list. My favorite activity + a Lenten activity. I can't wait! {Falls under number 1.}

10. Check out Easter books from the library. The boys LOVE to go to the library and I feel sure they'll have some that we don't. We have a handful, but not a lot. And I'll be honest and say that I feel certain it will be a mix between Jesus and a certain bunny. But we'll be sure to focus on what it REALLY means. {Part of number 1.}

I'd love to hear what your plans are for Easter. The Easter Bunny, of course, comes at our house but I am NOT making a big deal out of him this year. I want James {and Will!} to know the real reason Easter is such a special season for us. I want them to be able to proclaim the good news that He is Risen!

Wow long list for Lent. I usually just give up something I love. I haven't decided yet what it will be this year. Checking out Easter books at the library is an annual tradition for us. My son has already been asking when we are going!
