25 Posts of Christmas...Snowball Fight!

James is out of town, Will is asleep, my computer is working for the moment and it's time to play catch-up! Yippee! Let's just hope that I can get caught up AND get my house clean while Will naps. That would be a Christmas miracle!

So today's fun was really a genius idea all on my own. I've not seen it anywhere else on the internet, although I am SURE I'm not the only one who has dreamed this up. It is simple to make, CHEAP, and it proved yesterday to be a lot of fun! I dreamed up the idea while I was standing in Target the other day. They had the cutest "snowball toss" in their Christmas section. It was just little white bean bags and a target to throw them through. I almost picked it up to bring home until I realized it was $15. Not terribly expensive, of course, but I just couldn't bring myself to pay that much for something I knew I could make myself. And then I remembered seeing a cute sewing idea on Make It and Love It's website. She made Santa hat chair toppers and made a cute little poof ball of fleece for the hat. I pulled up her website (here's that post) and used it to complete my idea.

We're hitting the high 70s in Georgia this year in December so the idea of real snow is just in our dreams. Two years ago we had a white Christmas in Atlanta but I wouldn't bet any money on that this year! Whew! So our only snow is the made-up kind.

You'll need about a 1/4 yard of white fleece for 6 snowballs. You can do more for fuller snowballs or a larger number of snowballs, but that's what I bought so I utilized what I had. You'll also need embroidery floss or rubber bands and a pair of good scissors. And that's it!

First thing I did was to cut all of my fleece in 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch strips. After I did that I folded it over (remember, I had a 1/4 yard so it wasn't long) and cut the strips in half.

Then I piled up about 25-30 strips (don't pile them nice and neatly...just make sure the ends are all pretty even) and wrapped a rubber band around the middle before fluffing it out. Make It and Love It used embroidery floss or the thread she uses for monogramming, but when I tried that it wasn't sturdy enough for my purpose. I considered sewing them with my machine, but then realized a rubber band would work just fine. We HAVE had conversations with James about how Will is not to hold them at all. I just don't want him to possibly be able to work the rubber bands off and into his mouth.
