2 Weeks Old!

I can't believe that my baby is TWO WEEKS OLD! I know this is probably hilarious to those of you who can say "My baby is 2 years old...or 12 years old...or 22 years old...or 32 years old!" Nonetheless, it's flown by. I understand now what people are talking about when they say their children are growing up too fast! He so is! Ahh!
We had our first Well Baby Checkup today. At birth the little monkey weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces and was 21 inches long. At 3 days old his weight had dropped to 7 pounds, 8 ounces. They told me I needed to have him back to birth weight by his two week checkup. Are you ready for how much this chunky monkey weighs now??? Drumroll, please...NINE POUNDS. Gracious! Glad I've been doing my part! I have to admit I worried beforehand about the nursing part of this whole baby-thing but gaining a pound and a half in 11 days makes me feel pretty good about it! He'd also grown half an inch! My little man gets bigger every day!
Dr. W. said everything looked good. James lost his cord on Halloween and the belly button looks good (and is VERY cute!). His little surgery has healed up nicely and we were cleared for a real bath today! (We've already given him several of these but tonight we went full-out dumping water on his head - he didn't mind it a bit!)
My mom visited today. She got here this morning after we'd just gotten up and stayed until Eddie got home from work. We enjoyed visiting with her! Hopefully we'll get to go Christmas shopping with her for a little while on Thursday!
Eddie and I took James on his first family walk tonight. That boy loves his carseat and conked out before we'd turned out of the driveway! This was the first time I'd walked since we had him and I felt great! (I've obviously walked, just not for exercise!)
Funny stories this week...
Eddie was holding James in the kitchen on Sunday night when James decided he needed to sneeze. Unfortunately, it hadn't been long since he'd eaten and he sneezed and spit up at the same time, spraying Eddie in the face! Whoops! It's amazing what is no longer gross to us! Ha!
Yesterday morning James woke me up at 6:15 to eat breakfast-round 1. I got him up, fed him and stood up to change his diaper when I felt something wet on the backs of my legs. I reached down to see what it was and was covered in poop! He'd had a blow-out while I was feeding him and it was all over me, his jammies, and the sheets! Gross! I called for backup and we stripped the bed (so much for going back to sleep...) and got everything washed. The worst part of it was that since it hadn't ever happened before and it was so early in the morning (and I'm so sleep deprived!) that I couldn't figure out where it had come from and why there was poop on me! Didn't take long to figure out, though! I was WIDE awake after that! Ha!
We're still doing great! Trying to get this parenting thing all figured out! The evening hours (around 9 - right now...) are the worst lately. We're post-bath, pre-bedtime meal and he can't be consoled. Fortunately, my fantastic husband is wonderful and usually takes the reigns (for the most part) when he gets home so that I get a little break. We're still trying to get the hang of it but we're doing well in the learning process!

Sounds like you are doing great! Having been on the receiving end of more than one blow out myself, I had to laugh! Just be grateful that diapers have elastic around the legs now...
