Myrtle Beach and Sugarland!!!

I am so fortunate to have a job that allows for LOTS of holidays. Thursday and Friday of last week, as well as today, we were on Fall Break in Houston County. Eddie took a few days off and we headed up to South Carolina to his grandparents' beach house for an extended weekend. We had the BEST time even though the weather was stinky!

On Wednesday after Eddie got off work we loaded up the car and headed out in the rain. After a loonnnggg trip, we arrived at the beach at about 1 AM.

Thursday morning was spent lounging around both in the house and out on the beach. The weather was warm but the sky was overcast and there wasn't much sun for laying out. However, I stretched out on a lounge chair and took about a two hour nap listening to my iPod while Eddie walked and looked for shells. After we cleaned up that afternoon we went into Myrtle Beach to Broadway at the Beach - a boardwalk-type shopping area. It was so much fun to be outside and enjoying the warm not-rainy weather and doing a little shopping. We ate dinner at The Sea Captain's House (EXCELLENT!) and then headed back home.

Friday morning was more overcast, cooler, and more windy, but we braved the weather to go for a long beach walk. As soon as we got back we headed into the house, cleaned up, and got ready for some shopping. Now don't think that I would rather shop than lay on the beach but the weather was really yucky and there was just no point. In fact, by the time we were leaving it had begun raining. We headed over to Pawley's Island to look at the Hammock Shop. What a fun experience! We met Marvin, the man who makes the hammocks. If you've watched the Samantha Brown travel show about the Myrtle Beach area, then you've seen Marvin. He's a hilarious guy and we enjoyed talking to him. After we left the hammock shops we did even MORE shopping at the outlet malls. We had dinner on Thursday night at a place called Lee's Inlet Kitchen. It was ok - the She Crab Soup was outstanding - but I'm still partial to the Sea Capt.!

Saturday we'd planned on spending the day in Conway, where Mrs. Bobby's family is from. We visited with several of Eddie's cousins, as well as his aunt and uncle. It was so much fun to hear stories about everyone. We laughed all afternoon! They were very sweet and I wound up leaving with an armful of gifts to take back home. We ate with them at The Sidewheeler, a restaurant on the river in Conway. We had shrimp and grits and they were fantastic!

Sunday morning we were up at 7 to get ready to make the journey back home. Dad, Laura, Aunt Sue, and Uncle Mike were going to meet us at the fair mid-afternoon so we wanted to be back in order to enjoy that with them. We made MUCH better time getting home and it wasn't nearly as stormy.

Finally, in an early birthday present to me, Eddie and I enjoyed the Sugarland concert at the fair last night. It was EXCELLENT! Our seats were close to the stage, but pretty high up. However, we enjoyed everything from Zac Brown Band to singing "Love Shack" (complete with Jennifer Nettles in a hilarious blonde wig) to watching them roll through the audience in the big blow-up balls. I would go to another one of their concerts in a second! They were awesome entertainers!
