Bible School and Swimming!

We kicked off this morning what may be our busiest week of the summer. The boys and I were up and at 'em bright and early. We had our first day of Bible School. {I have what may be the easiest group...big old 4th graders who TOTALLY know what to do but aren't too cool for VBS. They're awesome and easy!} Funny side story...One of our best friends' kids is in my group. I got SO tickled at him today when he looked at me and said, "Mrs. Lauren, are you aware that James has a VERY large vocabulary?" Yes. Yes we are. HA!

We rushed from VBS straight out to swimming lessons. Before the teachers ever came out of the house {they were eating lunch and reapplying sunscreen} Will had hopped right in and I had to climb in up to my thighs and pull him out. It's going to be harder to teach him that he DOESN'T know how to swim than it will be to teach him HOW to swim. That stinker is not scared of much...and definitely not water. James did EXCELLENT. This is the first year he's hopped right in. He had a tough time listening - it's hard when brother is getting lessons right beside him...someone thinks he needs to boss coach little brother - but overall he did GREAT. I was SO impressed. First they worked on bobbing in the water - going under in the shallow end and then jumping back up - just to get his face wet. They both worked on floating. They both worked on humming into the water {to keep their mouths closed when they go under}. And James had a LOT of work to do on putting his face in AND opening his eyes under water. You can tell he's been wearing goggles, but Mrs. A. told me they want him to swim with his eyes open because in the event that he falls in, they want him to be able to open his eyes to figure out what to do. Overall, a GREAT first lesson, despite Will's early entry into the pool. Excited for tomorrow, but assuming Will may be even more eager to get in early.

I cant believe Will just jumped right in!! ...well I can actually! You are going to have to keep your eye on that boy, for sure!

I'm glad they did so well with swim lessons. Some kids don't do so well that quickly. The are going to be fish by the end of summer :)

I am in the midst of teaching VBS this week as well. Fun, but exhausting. I have 3-4 year olds!!! LOL So precious, but sooo full of energy.
Sounds like the swim lessons are going "swimmingly" well!
