Baby Brother...24 Weeks

Sort of a strange smile and some WILD hair, but here's the picture this week. It's too bad I can't give you a behind-the-scenes look at how this was done. I set the tripod up in the office (better light for sure!) and closed the doors with James on the other side. He was in the office by the time this one was made, but it made for a few funny minutes of "Mommy? Mommy! Ope-y, pees!" (Open, please!)

Size of the Baby: Papaya – If these fruits/veggies are running together for you like they are me, that means that Baby Brother measures about 10.5 to 11.8 inches and weighs about 12.7 to 20.8 ounces. (He weighed right around 12 ounces two weeks ago when he was measured.) This is for the entire fifth month, not just this week.

Total Weight Loss/Gain: +1 pound

Maternity Clothes: I’m in them! Lots of dresses! I’ve ordered several pairs of pants since I didn’t have pants when I was pregnant last time (summer-time pregnancy!).

Gender: Another boy!

Movement: Yes! Lots and lots and lots of it. He enjoys sitting right on top of my bladder all.the.time. I feel like he’s a lot lower than James was. James was all in my ribs all the time!

Cravings: I finally feel SO MUCH better. I’m not craving anything (except lots of sugar…not good) but I’m finally eating again. Still a few aversions, but much better than before.

Symptoms: I feel a lot better than I have! I have started wearing out more easily and I am certain that the hypoglycemia that I experienced with James is back. I also have the regular pregnancy aches and pains – and a little sciatica, but not nearly as much as I had with James.

Sleep: Still ok. I’m getting up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, but I’ve been going back to sleep. I’m having some trouble falling asleep.

What I Miss: Deli meat. And blue cheese. And yes, I know it’s okay to eat pasteurized blue cheese, but I just haven’t been able to bring myself to do it yet. (I also know that to miss blue cheese is WEIRD but my favorite restaurant salads have it on there.)

Best Moment This Week: James’ birthday party!

I had a doctor’s appointment this morning. My blood pressure was shockingly fine (I was alone with James and trying to listen and keep him still at the same time). It was 120/76. The baby’s heart rate was 152. I’ve still hardly gained any weight and I’m measuring a teensy bit small. Maybe this baby won’t be an 8-pounder? I talked with the midwife about my funky heart rate I’ve been having. She said it’s likely just hypoglycemia (which does NOT fall under the gestational diabetes spectrum). We talked about how I can eat and help it, but she basically said it’s just what I’ll have to deal with while I’m pregnant. I’ll have my bloodwork and gestational diabetes/glucose test the week of Thanksgiving. I highly doubt anything is wrong since I have LOW blood sugar, not high blood sugar, but I am pretty thankful I won’t have results right before Thanksgiving. Ha! Overall, everything looked good! I’ll go back for my 28 week visit next month!
