We were semi-busy in August (and will be SUPER busy in September, it seems) so I did a lot of light, cheesy reading. :) It makes for lots of books to list, but it doesn't do anything for the intelligence. Ha!
Jaws by Peter Benchley
I read this several years ago on a plane to Peru but as it's one of my favorite movies, I'm obsessed with the idea of sharks, AND it was Shark Week, I felt the need to re-read. It's a good one, in my opinion. It's a good bit different than the movie and I like that. It does end VERY abruptly, though, so I liked the movie ending more. I just love, love, love all of the Jaws movies. (Yes, even the super cheesy sequels!)
Living Dead in Dallas and Club Dead by Charlaine Harris
I really enjoy these Sookie Stackhouse novels. I know it seems like everything is vampire-y right now, but these have just enough action and drama to make me overlook the trend and really like them. We liked the show (we rented Season 1 while I was pregnant with James) but it was just SO bloody and gorry that I couldn't take it. These, while gorry, are not as bad as actually seeing it with my eyes.
Sweet Valley Confidential by Francine Pascal

I know, I know...ridiculous, right? This was one of my beach reads last week and I actually liked it! I wasn't all into Sweet Valley like I was Baby-Sitters Club, but I did read a few. This one is certainly not for little girls or tweens! The twins are all grown up and dealing with real-life drama. (I say real-life drama, but some of it was over-the-top.) The premise is that Elizabeth and Todd have broken up (*gasp!*) because he fell in love with Jessica (*gasp!*) and cheated on Elizabeth (*gasp!*) and called off their wedding (*gasp!*). Elizabeth is now in NYC and hasn't spoken to them in eight months. Everyone is all crazy about whether or not she'll go to the wedding. I did like how it was written, because it kept flashing back, clueing me (not an avid SV reader) into the characters and the happenings. I was a little disappointed with how cheesy and predictable it was, but I guess that's to be expected from someone who made her name writing teeny-bopper books. Overall, it was cute...especially if you liked the series growing up!
The Secret of Red Gate Farm (Nancy Drew, Book 6) by Carolyn Keene
I told you that my beach choices were less-than-par. This one was good as well. As usual, predictable plot and you can solve the mystery by the end of the first chapter. I can't stop reading them, though!

Girl with the Dragon Tatoo - amazing but some very graphic scenes. I read all three in the series, nearly without stopping.
Sarah's Key - maybe the saddest book I've ever read, but I loved it.
Thirteenth Tale - our book club did that one three years ago and we all really liked it.
