We had a fantastic weekend! It was one of those that flew by, but we had so much fun!
On Friday night we went to the new Chik-Fil-A down the street for supper. (Fancy, I know!) We were headed to a HOCO/TCHS baseball game and wanted to eat quickly before we went to the game. It was like a HOCO reunion there for me! First, I saw my friend Stacy and her family. She has a baby girl, Camryn, who is almost exactly two months younger than James. She is TEENY compared to him! (And has about five times as much hair!) Then we saw Genevieve, one of my favorite people that I taught with last year. I hadn't seen her since the end of the school year so I was so excited to see her smiling face!
We headed to the game after supper. It started at 7 o'clock and someone keeps pretty strict evening hours so I thought we might have about 45 minutes before he went into meltdown mode. We sat on the TCHS side and the boys wore their blue and white. I was a little torn over who to cheer for. I know all of the coaches on the HOCO side and have five former students who are players, compared to only knowing three TCHS players. The game was great and the end turned out to be a nail-biter. TCHS came back from behind to WIN the game in the seventh inning. Yes, we saw the end of the game. Someone is apparently a baseball fan (and was distracted by Mrs. Janet and Mrs. Peggy) and made it all the way to the end! We didn't get home until 10 o'clock, an hour and fifteen minutes past eating time and an hour past "meltdown" bedtime. Ha! He loves being out and about!
On Saturday morning we got up, Eddie and Scout went for a run, and we headed out to run some errands. We had to swing by Lowe's, the bank, Target, Zaxby's, and Sears before heading back to the house. Then Eddie worked in the yard (with a new weed eater...you know you're a grown up when you get excited about yard toys!). Mom and Sonny (aka Cacky and Poppy) came up around 4:30 and they went to Mellow Mushroom with James (brave!) while we went to visit the Putnals and had supper at Sticky Fingers.
On Sunday we went to church. James does really well in the nursery, which I'm thankful for! We were impressed when we walked in and the Children's Minister knew by Eddie saying his first name what his last name was! I haven't talked to her in several weeks, and then only via email! (Another impressing thing about the church we've been "visiting" - when a new member was being recognized during the service, the preacher gave a little background on the woman, named her children and where they lived, named things that the woman was involved in and what she found fascinating about her, etc. She gave a little five minute biography for the congregation and knew all of it from just talking with the woman! I LOVE that she is a preacher who has a passion for truly knowing her parishioners!)
After church we headed home to wait for Dad and Laura (aka Papa and Laura) to arrive in town. We had lunch with them at Longhorn (as usual...) and James was a HAM and entertained us all while we waited for our meal. He tried a lemon for the first time and we got a few shivers out of him. We went to Lowe's after lunch to pick up some plants for my planters on the front porch. We wound up with five different plants/flowers (Asparagus Fern, New Guinea Impatiens, Snowstorm Blue -never heard of it, Variegated Vinca Vine, and Marigolds). I think they look great!
James was an angel while Dad and Laura were here. He didn't ask to eat until they were leaving so they got complete play-time with him. He laughed and rolled and showed off and was WORN OUT once they left. He wound up laying down for a nap around five and slept for over an hour!
This week should prove to be fun! We've got some errands to run and I'm getting together with some friends. Hopefully it'll be wonderful! The weather is fantastic!
