Garden City.

Better late than never, right? We've been back from the beach for a week, but I am just now getting around to going through all of my pictures.

Day 1 - Wednesday, April 3:

We loaded up the car after Eddie got home from work and hit the road right around 6pm. We ran through Wendy's on our way out and fed everyone on the road.

It was a little touch-and-go for a bit. From our house we head toward Savannah and until about an hour east of Savannah Will was not happy. I'd fed him at the same time as everyone else but he couldn't settle down, couldn't see James' movie, and was just out-of-sorts. I finally hopped in the back and gave him a bottle and we stopped and changed a dirty diaper and that seemed to help. He was out the rest of the way.

(Will was crying and James was tired of listening to it.)

James was very well behaved. He had a little DVD player attached to the back of Eddie's seat (we only do DVDs on trips over 2 hours because we're on the road to and from Tifton too often for that...I want him to sleep or find other ways to entertain himself) and he watched three movies on the way up. We cut his DVD player off at 9:40 (he won't fall asleep with it on) after the third movie was over and after a little bit of a meltdown because his pillow was all the way in the back and I wouldn't climb back to get it he fell asleep, too.

Eddie and I spent the remainder of the trip playing Answer-My-Random-Questions (if you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?), texting Lauren, and singing out loud in an effort to hold our eyelids open.

Bridge in Charleston.

We sang this over and over {and over and over} between Charleston and the beach. Soooo sleepy.

We arrived at the beach house at 12:30 and after unloading the car and feeding Will another bottle, we all settled down to sleep. (James slept with Grandmama and when we carried him in he immediately asked to be put in bed. He doesn't remember arriving or having his diaper changed.)

Day 2 - Thursday, April 4:

Rain, rain, go away!

This day was dreary! It was rainy and FREEZING all day long. I have never been so cold at the beach in all of my life. The house was having some work (I'm not sure if I mentioned it but this is Eddie's mom's and aunt's house - we went so that Eddie could help her do some work on it before the rental season begins) and the heater was disconnected and didn't work the whole time we were there. I was NOT prepared for the cold weather. We washed several clothing items and wore the same things over and over. Ha!

On Thursday we got out after lunch and ran errands since there was no chance we would be getting on the beach. We went to Home Goods, Home Depot, and WalMart while we were out. At WalMart we filled two buggies full of things we needed to give the house a little facelift.

Totally out under those shades!

Day 3 - Friday, April 5:

Still cold, but no rain! Woohoo!

We got out on Friday and walked on the beach a bit. But it was EXTREMELY cold and windy. I didn't take Will out at all. And Eddie wore jeans. If you know him, you know that means it was cold. He doesn't wear pants (he DOES wear shorts, just to clarify) unless it is bitterly cold.

(Meltdown because he was sannnnnnndy.)

We went out for dinner on Friday night to a restaurant called Drunken Jack's in Murrells Inlet. There was a bit of a wait but it was totally worth it because it was BEAUTIFUL outside and we enjoyed walking up and down the walk along the inlet. Lots of animals to be seen! The food was really good as well, but Will was hungry and tired by the time we ate so he and I had to go on a little walk outside during supper. He was fine if we were going but didn't want to be seated at the table.

See the peacocks above? Girls on the right, male on the left.

You can JUST barely see the male fanned out above to the right of the tree right in the middle.

After dinner we went to the arcade back in Garden City. This was probably James' favorite part of the whole trip. It really was fun. He hadn't ever been to a place like this and he LOVED it. He enjoyed "playing" all of the games and riding the little rides. He's told Granddaddy (who was on a golf trip while we were at the beach) that he needs to save his money so that next time we go he can take James to the arcade.

Day 4 - Saturday, April 6:

We DID get out on the beach on Saturday. Sadly, I didn't take a camera because I was worried we'd get it wet and sandy. James had been chomping at the bit to get to the beach so we put on bathing suits and headed out. It was probably 60*. Will and I played in the sand about halfway to the water but Eddie and James braved the cold at played at the edge. Will finally couldn't stand the temptation any longer and joined them, only to realize it was miserable. (It was still really cold - people were walking by in pants and long sleeves.) He and I headed back to the house to warm up in the bathtub. By the time I got Will out of the tub, Eddie and James were headed back as well.

After lunch Eddie's aunt and uncle, Mary Ellen and Bobby, and Mrs. Bobby's cousin, Paddy, came by to visit and go out to dinner with us. We ate at a place called Sara J's. I thought it was just ok. I ordered shrimp and grits and if you've had them before you know that NO ONE makes them the same way. This was really more like a gumbo over cheese grits. It was good, but not the best I've ever had. The boys got restless at the end of the meal so I took them outside to play so everyone else could visit. We had so much fun visiting with the South Carolina family.

I wish I'd taken pictures of it but didn't even THINK about it when they pulled it out. Mary Ellen and Paddy get together and quilt. They've made James a few things, namely his bow tie quilt which you can see HERE. (If you haven't read that post, it's really interesting and so neat how they put it all together.) They showed us Will's unfinished quilt while we were there this week and it is GORGEOUS. It's out of ties, too, but it's an airplane pattern. They've had some frustration trying to piece it together but I cannot wait for it to be done so we can get our hands on it. It's beautiful!!! Maybe we'll pull out James' quilt this week and have a picnic on it. James would be thrilled!

Day 5 - Sunday, April 7:

Sadly, it was time to return home. Knowing we had a long haul ahead of us, we packed up shortly after breakfast and hit the road just a bit before lunch.

The trip home went well! I actually was really surprised. James watched a movie and Will slept from Garden City to Georgetown. We stopped and grabbed lunch and gas and then continued on our way. I think we turned off James' DVD player after we got lunch and he napped for a bit.

We drove until we were just outside of Georgia and stopped to potty and stretch our legs. We grabbed a Frosty from Wendy's, changed diapers, and headed on our merry little way.

I think we wound up arriving back home around 6:15. We ran the boys around a bit before supper and then tried to maintain a normal bedtime routine.

We had a really fun trip! We wound up not doing much, but the boys were entertained, I think Eddie helped Mrs. Bobby get some things done, and I enjoyed getting away from our regular routine! Hopefully we'll get to go back when it's warm and we can play on the beach!
