June Books.

Oh my. I am so, so ashamed. So very ashamed. I only read one book in the month of June. I made a goal to read 52 books this year and while I'm only five books behind schedule, I really felt like I'd catch up in June. And then life just happened and I got behind.

SO.

Congo by Michael Crichton. I need to admit here that I am way weirder than I even come across in real life. I love, love science fiction. Love it. I was the kid who went to the library and headed for the books on Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, UFOs, etc. I love a sci-fi movie (even the really, really cheesy ones). As long as it's not too scary, I love it. Congo was a movie I'd seen years and years ago (confession: I even own it) and when I was strolling through the library one day and saw this book and realized it was Michael Crichton I snatched it off the shelf (remember, I'm the Jurassic Park nut...). I really enjoyed the book a LOT. The movie strays from some of the storyline, but pretty much stays true. The story is obviously set in Africa. A group has gone in to search for diamonds and is killed by what is presumed to be some sort of ape. Because of this, they send a search team (both to search for the party and to find the diamonds) in and also bring along a man who has been working with a gorilla on communication by sign language (think Koko the gorilla). The story is of their trials to find the diamonds and the other group.

On my nightstand currently: Sphere by Michael Crichton, Eaters of the Dead by Michael Crichton, Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man by Fannie Flagg, and The Killing Floor by Lee Child. A Little Salty to Cut the Sweet by Sophie Hudson. In my car: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling. Reading with James: Mr. Potter's Penguins.
