Yikes. Thanks a lot, Netflix. I am obsessed. (I have actually read the entire series that this show is based on.) I've finished the first season and have started on the second. Definitely a time-sucker, but I love it.
Our book club book was Dream a Little Dream by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I enjoyed it, because it was light, vacation reading, but it was WAY hokey. I haven't been able to decide whether I really liked it, or if it was just a nice change of pace from the norm. It's a little formulaic - widow moves back to town, meets hunky but distant man (who seems to be the only man in town who doesn't know about her past). It was a sweet story (and I was rooting for all the characters) but definitely very predictable. If you like light romance, this would be a good one for you!
James and I read Homer Price by Robert McCloskey. This one was a collection of short stories about Homer, a boy who lives in Centerburg. This was a funny book for older kids. Definitely too many jokes for children who are still very literal. I enjoyed it, James was bored.
James and I also read Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle by Betty MacDonald. Wow! He laughed his way through this one. It's all about children with different "ailments" and how Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle cures them. There's "The Answer-Backer Cure," "The Doesn't Want to Go to Bed Cure," etc., etc. He thought they were funny! We've borrowed one or two more from my mama (Anna LOVED these when we were little) and we'll read another one soon.
We listened to Stuart Little by E.B. White in our car and then watched Stuart Little and Stuart Little 2 on Netflix. He LOVED the movies, so I know he's into it, but I realized very quickly that he's just not ready for audiobooks yet. I really enjoyed re-reading it, though!
My current reads are - Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, Slumdog Millionaire (book club), and James and I need to finish Runaway Ralph. I'm hoping this summer to have a set schedule in our house so that we're able to get way more reading done! And we need to step away from the Netflix!

I want to start reading some things to Amelia, other than her short bedtime story books. She loves for us to read to her.
I hope your garden does well! If we get just one thing to pick from ours - I'll feel like I've accomplished so much! HAHA!
