James cannot catch a break in the staying-well department. He's had a cough and runny nose for 6-8 weeks now. He's had an ear infection once a month since the beginning of the year. He just cannot kick either illness. Our doctor (whom we love) thinks that it's just the fact that he's allergic to ev.ery.thing in the seasonal allergies department and it's just causing all kinds of drainage which, of course, causes a nasty nose and a bad-sounding cough. I completely agree, but at some point enough is enough. He's on two daily allergy medicines and we've seen no change in the problem. (If you have any homeopathic suggestions, we're all ears!)
Tuesday night he was up and down several times, moaning and crying. He needed his daddy is all that he would tell us. He would only stay in his bed if Eddie slept with him. I, of course, slept great in the king-sized bed all by myself. I can't say the same for those two in the twin. :)
On Wednesday morning he was still not feeling well so I took his temperature and he had a low-grade fever. I gave him some Motrin and an hour later he was his normal self. He did tell me, however, that his ears hurt. Hmm. I decided to be irresponsible and take him to swimming lessons anyway. We're already one day behind for missing last week and I hated to get even further behind.
After swimming lessons we came home and James got worse and worse. His fever finally topped out at 102*. I bit the bullet and called to make an appointment to see our doctor. Unfortunately, he was in his other office for the day so we had to be scheduled to see his partner, Dr. S.
James. was. pitiful. I am always amazed at how lethargic he can get from a fever. My normally-bouncing-off-the-walls-preschooler sat in my lap the entire time we visited the doctor's office today. (Sidenote: Had he not been feeling that pitiful, I probably would've called Eddie in for reinforcements. Those of you who have been out with James can probably understand why. James is very sweet and funny, but he has more energy than he knows what to do with and the doctor's office almost always wears me out since he can't be all that contained.) We loved Dr. S. She was very sweet and patient with James (who was NOT happy that Dr. W. wasn't there). Immediately when she looked in his ears she said, "Oh my gosh, they're horrible." Yikes.
We left the doctor's office with orders to continue Singulair and Motrin but add in a super-antibiotic, a nose spray, and a cough medicine and antihistamine combo. Doesn't all of that sound fun for our hates-to-take-liquid-medicine boy? She also said that it was likely that both ears will drain that yucky stuff.
I laid all five medicines out in front of him last night and let him choose which ones to take first, second, and so on. He also got one jelly bean for every medicine he took. Because I am all about the bribery if it means I don't have to sit on my kid to make him take his medicine.
Worst of all? No swimming until Tuesday. Boo! Poor little turkey is NOT happy about missing out. Hopefully this won't hold us back any and he'll hop right back in on Tuesday. (I asked him this morning how he felt {he was talking ninety-to-nothin' so I knew it had to be better} and he said, "Good! I can go to swimming! I'm ok!" Ha! Poor little stinker.)
(James felt terrible in the picture above, but perked up because "William" was there. He LOVES his brother!)
