Happy Birthday, Sweet Boy!

Dear Sweet Baby James,

I cannot believe that one year has gone by since we met you for the very first time. I am blown away by how quickly time has passed. While this year has certainly not been the easiest of my life, it has been the best! You have brought so much joy into our lives! You are happy and healthy and we could never ask for more than that. You have taught us how to love more, enjoy more, appreciate more.

Every night since you have slept in your own bedroom, your daddy and I have tiptoed into your room to look at you in your bed. We love to watch you sleep and talk about how much fun you are. Occassionally one of us will say to the other "Let's wake him up and play with him," because we just can't get enough. A few weeks ago at church the preacher spoke about an 80 year old woman whose husband had recently passed away. The couple had been married for 60 years and she told the preacher it just wasn't enough time. That's sort of how I feel at the end of this first year. It wasn't enough time. I want to keep you little forever, but I'm excited for you to grow into the person that God plans for you to be.

Last night I wondered if you'd be walking and talking suddenly today since you're ONE. Your daddy said you'd probably climb out of your crib and find us and be ready for kindergarten. I'm happy to report that you are STILL a baby.

This morning when you woke up I sang Happy Birthday to you and you looked at me like I was crazy. We read a book and snuggled and tickled and laughed. Mornings are so much fun with you!

We have a doctor's appointment tomorrow so I'll do your "official" update then.

You are such a joy and we love you more than we can say!!!

Love,
Mama

Amy, he was 8 lbs., 3 oz. when he was born and 21 inches. The doctor had assured me the week before I was going to have a six-and-a-half pounder the week before and then just seven pounds the day of. When I started pushing the nurses told me there was no way he'd be that little! Good thing my epidural worked! He was 22 lbs., 5.5 oz. this morning!
